Technology Upgrades in the Video & Audio Departments

Because of the generous donations of several students, the Academy was able to purchase new equipment for the Unarius video and audio departments that will greatly improve the quality of videos, DVDs, and audio recordings. The video department will premiere its first high definition video, The Arrival & Roots—A Retrospective, at the upcoming Conclave of Light event. Computer components were procured to complete the upgrade to edit this exciting new program in high definition format. High definition provides a much clearer and richer picture for viewers, as currently seen on TV channels airing in HD format such as Discovery, Animal Planet, and ESPN. This upgrade will keep Unarius shows, and especially that uplifting love frequency, going out to the world in the best looking way possible. Contributions also enabled the Academy to purchase a new high definition projector for showing videos in digital format.

The next item on the wish list for the video/public access departments is computer hardware that will provide the capacity to store all the Unarius videos on the computer for easy and quick access, instead of the current digital tape format. Videos will need to be converted to MPEG format for storage, which is the first step in being able to send files electronically to public access stations for airing rather than mailing tapes or DVDs. Currently, two of the twenty-three stations that air Unarius programs accept programs in MPEG format, and more stations will soon have the equipment to play MPEG files. Being able to send files electronically is an important step forward because it will allow Unarius programs to be shown on hundreds of public access stations across the United States without requiring more student volunteers to make additional tape or DVD copies of program dub masters. Think of the millions of viewers that will potentially be able to watch Unarius shows in their homes!

With the help of donations, the audio department has recently purchased two MP3 recorders and three wireless handheld/lavalier microphones. Classes, workshops, and events are now digitally recorded, providing a much crisper sound with no tape hiss. Because the recordings are in MP3 format, they can be directly uploaded into the computer for storage and editing, if needed, and CD or audiotape recordings can be easily made upon request.

Now that the video and audio departments have begun digital audio and video mastering, there is a need for Archival Gold CDs and DVDs, which can reliably store data for 100/300 years. Also, the audio department would like to purchase a shotgun microphone to mount onto the HD camera, which would better capture sound while filming. If you would like to contribute funds to complete the upgrades for the Unarius video and audio departments, contact the Academy.
